Precision and Prevention:
Our Commitment to Quality

At Canterbury Endoscopy, we believe that a colonoscopy is only as effective as the specialist’s ability to find and remove subtle precancerous growths.

Our practice prioritises clinical excellence by measuring ourselves against the highest international quality benchmarks. By combining specialist expertise with cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence (AI), we provide an exceptionally thorough examination designed to offer you the greatest peace of mind and the highest level of protection against bowel cancer.

What is the Adenoma Detection Rate (ADR)?

As a gold-standard measure of endoscopic excellence, the Adenoma Detection Rate (ADR) tracks how effectively a specialist detects polyps during an examination. Finding these pre-cancerous polyps is the first step towards preventing development of bowel cancer.

In 2026, the international benchmark is at least 25%, but at Canterbury Endoscopy, we strive for even higher targets to ensure patient safety.

Why does a high ADR matter for my health?

Accuracy saves lives. Research shows that for every 1% increase in a endoscopist's ADR, the patient’s risk of developing "interval" bowel cancer before their next check-up decreases by 3%.

It is therefore very important, that every colonoscopy is performed to the highest standard possible, pre-cancerous polyps removed, thereby reducing risk of developing bowel cancer.

How does AI (Artificial Intelligence) help during my procedure?

We use advanced AI software as a "second set of eyes."

As the specialist moves the scope, the AI scans the video feed in real-time, highlighting even the flattest or smallest polyps that might be hidden behind a fold. This "Computer-Aided Detection" significantly boosts our ability to find these polyps, therefore reducing risk of developing bowel cancer.

Is AI-integrated colonoscopy more expensive?

No. At our Christchurch clinic, we view AI as a standard component of a high-quality procedure. We utilise the state-of-the-art equipment at the Southern Endoscopy Centre to provide the most accurate diagnostic results possible for every patient, with no additional costs associated with using AI technology.

What makes the Southern Endoscopy Centre different?

The Southern Endoscopy Centre is a modern, purpose-built facility designed for patient safety and comfort. Our highly trained staff and up-to-date equipment allow us to perform procedures with a focus on clinical excellence. We are committed to using advanced tools, including real-time AI, to provide a highly effective colonoscopy for every patient we see.
